I just bought a used 7745 with an Allied 594 loader....I am pretty stoked!
It needs quite a bit of work - Trans/Hyd fluid appears to be Case HyTran (red) that is very milky looking, Brakes need attention, power steering is pretty stiff....working, but stiff. The whole thing just needs some attention. It has been sitting for a while...1 year at the dealer's place and who knows how long before that.
Engine starts and runs like a top.
Going to change all the fluids and filters first and see how things act after that.

Well, I am learning that my tractor has been neglected. I have been bust cleaning it up and replacing parts where needed.
The biggest question I have is that the trans/hydraulic fluid (appears to be Case Hy-Tran Ultra, red) is a milky red color and have yet to determine if it is water or aeration of the fluid. If it is air, can anyone give me the most likely place to look?
This tractor is equipped with power assisted steering (as opposed to hydrostatic) which was a bit stiff - am I correct to run ATF Type 2 (Dexron II) in the Power Steering?

Yes, run ATF II in the powersteering, and change the red ATF from the rear end to normal universal oil 10w/30 or gear oil 80w/90

Hi cwooz, the steering on these is stiff at the best of times when fitted with a loader, though the wrong oil will make it even worse. Check that it's not the steering damper causing the hard steering (RH rear side of the front axle). You could remove it to check. It could also be the kingpin bearings are seized.
The older tractors would sometimes fail the coupling between the compressor and the steer pump, though you would struggle to steer it at all if this happened. You could check this by removing the hose from the pump and crank over to check if there is any oil coming out.
If it is getting water in the trans oil, check the gear stick boot if it doesn't have a cab, these usually perish, letting water in whenever it's washed/rained on etc. There's not too many other places it can get in. To check if it's simply aeration, leave sit overnight and check the oil on the dipstick in the morning, it should not be milky. Aeration is usually caused when the seals on little tubes that join the pump plate to the bottom of the gearbox and the tube between the top cover and the gearbox fail. This will also cause low hyd power. Bare in mind that all oil will aerate when cold, it should settle when it heats up.
Congrats on your purchase, they are a great tractor when maintained properly, oil and filters are cheap in comparison to parts!

Cheers, Aaron.
