Hi, i have a 6245 1987 model, engine has just been rebuilt and ive noticed oil leeking from the exhaust gasket (Head closest to cab) im thinking the rings arnt seated in yet as it hasnt realy done any work yet. Any ideas on why it may be leeking apart from rings not bedded in ? cheers:sneaky:

you can see the difference in diesel an engine oil.... my 4712 does exactly the same at the exact same cylinder head and its engine oil all right not diesel...

it needs some hard work! get a trailer loaded with some soil and go up some nice hills, do it the world of good!;)

Thanx for the promp reply guys ,,,, its egnine oil not deisel i think i need to work it as stated ...ill load it up and see how we go thanx again :)

If it is engine oil most likely cause is damaged oil control ring upon assembly when engine rebuilt! It is much easier to remove & check the spray pattern on the injector first, as when they are faulty a black oiley fluid appears as you describe in your earlier post. Yes making the engine work hard will burn the oiley deposit away only to return under light load.

Were the valve guides replaced too ?

I just bought the tractor 4 days ago they told me it had new rings sleeves and bearings repplaced. The units been well kept ive gone over it and replaced all oils filters and fixed the lights and aircon. This is my first tractor so im learning every day :)
and i found that the exhaust manifold bolts where loose as in finger tight .As for the injectors : im going to replace them just for peace of mind

No need to replace all injectors .
You can just interchange their position and check if the problem stay on the same cylinder .
A fresh rebuilt engine has some oil in cylinder and on piston and if the manifold is loose it is normal that small amount of oil leak in the first hours .
If this is a real problem Valve guide or broken rings The engine will smoke heavy blue .

Well i worked it today for the first time with a 5" slasher mower.no oil leeks no smoke worked great for around 5hrs .. then i noticed a knocking sound , jumped out of the cab and the engine has got the loadest knock ive ever heard .... stoped it and checked the egine oil ,and it was ok.. rang the dealer i bought it from they will get back to me tomorrow.
im guessing a bearing has let go .. great start i think i should of stuck with a Deutz as all my machinery i run run Deutz engines 913 itercooled turbo aircooled ,but will see whats happened to the Zetor b4 i put a match to it :p
