ok guys going to need yer help on this one .
Oh I have a zetor 5011, 1984 .
Now this lever the PTO engagement lever does not seem to be working right, or I am not using it right , let me explain. With the engine running at idle , and stepping the clutch pedal to the floor, when I try to put the lever in the second position, from the floor, the gears just grind and I cannot put it in this position. If I shut the tractor off then I can move it to this 2nd postion and then start the tractor the pto turns. once running like this I can move the lever to the floor or to the up position but then I cannot go back to the second position as before :(

what am I doing wrong.

what are the four positions of this lever starting from the floor? the operators manuel is not clear on this, I am confused.

thank you for your time and patience.

noobie zetor owner ;)

ok answering my own post ..... ya have to use the pto brake on the left hand side of the driver
to engage the pto. Ran outside and tried it after reading a post here farther down the list of posts.

works like a charm :)

Yeah, that's what I was going to say! It's a pto clutch though, not a brake.

Glad you're up and running!

To answer the second part of the question. On Zetors with four (4) positions on the PTO clutch lever, the forward most position is a neutral, second is "Live" PTO, third is neutral and the rear most position is "Ground" PTO which is governed by the foot clutch and the speed of the tractor underway. I'm having my own PTO clutch problem and thus have become familiar with its operation. Note: Do not leave the PTO hand lever in disengaged position for more than a few minutes, place the PTO lever in neutral when PTO is not in use, however, the PTO must be engaged for the hydraulic system to operate. Confused yet?

Hello All, Has anyone replaced the PTO shaft and shifter mechanism (4340) with the updated parts which presumably will correct the PTO selector lever from jumping out? This jumping out is caused by the outer circlip on the PTO shaft jumping out of its groove allowing the bearing to slide rearward on the shaft. A simple fix is to replace the circlip, however, if the brilliant former operator continued to jamb the PTO lever "in", the front splines of the PTO shaft and the corresponding shifter splines get damaged. Thanks, Nick

yo Nick thanks for the info, I was quite confused with that 4 position lever because the diagram in the owners manul and the description and the little symbol thingy didnt match and by the way the pomp seems to work at any of the positions , armed with this new info you have provided me with , tomorrow I will check it out again.

off the topic how come we dont get emails when we check the box ?
when we post to the site

Nick, the front position works the hydraulic pump but not the PTO. It isn't 'neutral'.
then the next position works the hydraulic pump AND the PTO.
then comes neutral (for pump and PTO)
then finally the "ground PTO"

The clutch lever to the left of the handbrake disengages both the hydraulic pump and the PTO.

The above is all useful to know for example if you use a rear mounted snow blower - raising and lowering, blowing and not blowing - all the permutations and combinations require the dexterity of a church organist ;)

Nick's 4340 should have the engine mounted oil pump as standard... that helps a lot... ;)

How do you adjust the pto clutch on a 4340? When I lift up the clutch and try to put the pto in gear I get a lot of grinding. When I reduce the engine rpms it goes in alot easier. Is there an adjustment on the lever?
