Just about to adjust the valves on my 5711 as they were all tight before I worked on the heads.
Could anyone tell me the correct sequence in which I should adjust them please?
Many thanks.
Use this method.
Adjust valves 1 & 2 with 7 & 8 on the rock.
Adjust valves 3 & 4 with 5 & 6 on the rock.
Adjust valves 5 & 6 with 3 & 4 on the rock.
Adjust valves 7 & 8 with 1 & 2 on the rock.
Valve clearance is checked with a cold engine.
Inlet (short rocker arm) 0.2mm.
Exhaust (long rocker arm) 0.3mm.
Just adjusted the tappets, and not much different than before to be honest- plumes of black smoke still, either that or somthing else like pump or governor perhaps?
When you say "adjust 1&2 with 7&8 on the rock" ,do you mean adjust 1 when 7`s open, and 2 when 8`s open?
Sorry if I`m being thick!
