Hi!

I had a problem with some sludge in my diesel tank, so I removed it, drained it, and cleaned it. However, in doing so, the fuel sender and float broke beyond repair. I tried the Zetor dealer, and the replacement is about $300. I tried Ridgeway and the replacement is about $70 but it is on backorder, and they don't know when it will be in.

I am wondering if any fuel senders from other brands would work. The screw pattern is 5 screws in a circle, and I have seen others on Amazon and e-Bay that look similar. The only other difference is that 3 leads are coming into the original sender, and many of the ones I see online have only two. I think one of the leads is a ground, so I could just ground it if that is the case.

Any help would be appreciated so I can get my tractor mowing back out in the pasture again.

Thanks!

Craig

You can also use other fuel senders, with the same srew sheme and with a messure range from around 0 to 90 Ohm

Dip tube sensors (ø 54 mm) are even better and you have a smoother fuel gauge (needle doesn't swing as much) - eg from VDO:

One hint in this case...

The original swiming sensor: (ø 54 mm) and 60 mm instrument
empty tank = araound 2 Ω and full tank araound 80-90 Ω

Dip tube sensor: (ø 54 mm) and 60 mm instrument
empty tank = araound 70-80 0 Ω and full tank araound 2,5 Ω

That means without the VDO instrument for a dip tube sensor, the instrument display shows exactly the opposite.

So there are three solutions for this:
  1. ignore them
  2. or buy also a VDO instrument for a dip tube sensor
  3. or buy also a tool like this: :like

Its a KUS Resistor changer with adjustment for min and max level (cost around 22 Euros)

Thank you for the hint. I appreciate it.

Forgive me for asking, but what does the ø symbol represent? We don't use it in America, so I am not familiar with it.

Thanks.
