Hi,
Great forum guys. Ive got a problem on starting after leaving the tractor for a few days I have to bleed the fuel up to the injectors most times.I noticed in the manual that inside the glass bowl beneath the fuel pump there is what seems to be a one way valve, could this be the cause of the back flow to the tank?.Also when I use the hand pump fuel comes back up the shaft, could this be the problem? There is no visable sign of leakage.

any leaks on a diesel system are not good. diesel systems are very sensitive and dont like air. is it leaking around the hand pump plunger??? if so id change it

Unscrew the cap of the lift pump from the body, pull out the piston and change the "o" ring on the end. this will stop the leak and probably cure your problem. It is difficult to get the pump which you unscrew the top and pump to use, as replacements are spring loaded ones you press, and they haven't got as much volume per stroke.

Thanks for the replies Dave and Matt. Ill change the o ring and see if that sorts it,there is no sign of any leaks until I try and use the hand pump. What do you think about the one way valve in the fuel bowl, do you think that would be allowing diesel back to the tank?
Cheers Eli.

I think it could only let fuel back into the tank if air could get in between the lift pump and the injector pump. As you have no leaks it seems unlikely as I believe I am right in saying that the tank is higher than the pump on this model. We had one in the early '70's, and the only problems we had with it was that if we put a new driver on it it was usually left stuck in gear!!
