I have an old and up to now extremely reliable Zetor 4340. The speed selector shift lever is stuck in High Speed. It doesn't feel seized but moves slightly then cannot move anymore as if it is hitting a lock. Just in case its seized I have taken off the top gear cover and then tried forcing as much WD40 around the lever as possible to no effect.

Do I need to take off the transmission plate to get to the selector pins or is there an easier way that anyone knows to fix the problem.

Hi

It sounds like you've used it on the road or in your yard in 4wd. This winds up the gearbox so you can't move the hi/low lever. Try reversing the tractor, it should come out okay then. 4wd shouldn't be used on hard surfaces.

Mike,
I was a bit skeptical about your suggestion as I had tried shunting the tractor back and forward to try and free up the lever but, I stuck it into reverse drove back a few feet and hey presto the lever freed up. The problem is now solved.

Many thanks it has saved me a few hours work.
