Injector pump on 6045

HI Guys
Had the injector pump reconditioned and refitted on my 6045 but since refitting has been hard to start (small puffs of black smoke and after a lot of turns finally starts) Ok restarting after inital start. Looked in recently purchased manual and only mentions mark on flywhel lining up with that on transmission.Any clues on what should be lined up with what to make sure the injector pump is lined up at the right spot in the engine.

cheap trick:

loosen the 3 bolts in the slotted holes. Start your tractor, and turn the pump in the slotted holes, with a big wrench untill it runs good.
Put the engine at about 1000 rpm, and you'll definately hear where it runs right. It doesnt take an experienced ear, just it shouldnt rattle nor smoke. right in the middle.

Hi

Have you tried pumping the hand primer a few times before you try to start it ? It could have the fuel "run back" problem.

Could not get much movement out of pump (possibly less than slots) as the loader frome is very close, and no chance of getting a wrench on it, sounded better, will try to get time to start it before work tomorrow and see if has made any differance. Thanks for your suggestion Mike will give that a try also.

Hi Guys Tried two cold starts, one with the injector pump on the moved setting, started and ran better but still slow starting (thanks Renze) .And one giving the pump a few primes first, started like normal this time. So will assume I now have a fuel run back problem.
How do I trace and fix a fuel run back problem ? as the fuel lines do not seem to be leaking.

Hi Marty

You can try clamping the return line (the one from the back of the pump to the tank). Then pump the hand primer to pressurize the system and look for leaks. If you've got the old green braided hoses still, you may have to change the lot as they may not show a leak but will let air in. Don't forget about the short piece of pipe behind the pump, which you can't see.

Thankfully I don't have any of the braided hoses, pressurised the system with the hand primer and found a few small leaks, after fixing them it now starts like it should, surprising that a few small leaks could affect the system that much, thanks for the advice.

Just about to replace injector pump on 3511 after getting the injectors and pump reconditioned, not sure what is the correct way of fitting pump, finding the correct position as regards to TDC, any help greatly appreciated

You would be better off to start a new post to get advice.
Used to have a 3545 but never replaced to injector pump on it.
If it is similar to the 6045 there should be a space in the gear cog that the injector pump fits into when replacing it, which will make it close to TDC. Cheers Marty
